2022 EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl Slated For Christmas Eve

HONOLULU – The 19th edition of the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl is slated for Christmas Eve and will be played at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa campus.

Showcasing teams from the Mountain West and Conference USA, the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl will kick off Saturday, Dec. 24th at 8:00 p.m. ET (3:00 p.m. HT) on ESPN.

“We look forward to hosting college football fans’ favorite holiday tradition, the EasyPost Hawai’i Bowl, while also providing visitors and student athletes the unique experiences that only Hawai’i can offer,” said executive director Daryl Garvin.

The Ching Athletics Complex will serve as the temporary home of the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl while the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District is completed. Aloha Stadium hosted the bowl game annually from 2002 to 2019.

A Mountain West team has played in the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl every year since 2012. Conference USA will send a representative for the 12th time in EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl history.

The EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl is known for its high scoring, thrilling offenses, and close games with two overtime contests and seven games decided by one touchdown or less. In addition to promoting the island way of life by sponsoring events intrinsic to Hawai‘i, the bowl supports many non-profit organizations through the Hawai‘i Bowl Foundation. More than $1 million has been awarded to local charities since the inception of the Hawai‘i Bowl Foundation. Additionally, through the Extra Yard for Teachers program, the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl has partnered with Teach for America Hawai’i to support teachers, schools and students.

The bowl game was created in 2002 after the hometown Rainbow Warriors finished the 2001 season with a 9-3 record and were not invited to a bowl game. The University of Hawai’i has participated in the bowl a record nine times.

The 2020 and 2021 games were not played due to Covid-19.  Tickets are expected to go on sale later this summer.

Hawai‘i To Make 10th Appearance In EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i has accepted an invitation to the 2021 EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl.

The Rainbow Warriors (6-7) will represent the Mountain West and will face Memphis of the American Athletic Conference in the 19th edition of the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl.

“On behalf of the EasyPost Hawaiʻi Bowl Executive Committee and ESPN Events, I’m pleased to announce the University of Hawaiʻi has accepted an invitation to represent the Mountain West in the 2021 EasyPost Hawaiʻi Bowl,” said EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl Executive Director Daryl Garvin.

UH will be making its 10th Hawai‘i Bowl appearance and playing in its 15th bowl all-time with an 8-6 overall record. Hawai‘i is bowl bound for the fourth consecutive season and fifth time in the last six years.

Under the direction of second-year head coach Todd Graham, the Rainbow Warriors finished the season in a tie for fourth place in the MW’s West Division. Hawai‘i is among the nation’s leaders in takeaways (27) while defensive back Khoury Bethley is tied for the FBS lead with five interceptions. All-purpose back Calvin Turner, Jr., leads the team with 12 touchdowns.

Owned and operated by ESPN Events, the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl will be played Friday, Dec. 24 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa campus. Kickoff is 3 p.m. HT (8 p.m. ET) and the game will be televised on ESPN.

Memphis Accepts Invitation to EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl

HONOLULU – The University of Memphis has accepted an invitation to the 2021 EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl. Representing the American Athletic Conference, the Tigers (6-6) will meet a team from the Mountain West in the 19th edition of the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl.

“We are thrilled to welcome the University of Memphis Tigers to the EasyPost Hawai’i Bowl, and look forward to sharing the aloha spirit with their student athletes, administrators and fans,” said EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl Executive Director Daryl Garvin.

Memphis became bowl eligible for the eighth consecutive season after a 33-28 win over Tulane on Saturday. The Tigers will be making their 15th all-time bowl appearance with a 6-8 overall bowl record.

The Tigers feature one of the nation’s top wide receivers in Calvin Austin III, who has 1,149 yards on 74 receptions and 10 total touchdowns. Defensively, linebacker JJ Russell is among the nation’s leaders in tackles with 123. Head Coach Ryan Silverfield (14-10) is in his second full season at Memphis and will be coaching his third bowl game with the Tigers.

HONOLULU – Tickets for the 2021 EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl go on sale Monday, Nov. 29 either online at etickethawaii.com or at the UH Ticket Office (Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. HST).

The 19th edition of the bowl game will be played Friday, Dec. 24 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa campus, and will feature a team from the Mountain West against a team from the American. Kickoff is 3 p.m.

Diamond Head Endzone – $50

‘Ewa Endzone – $30

In order to attend the game, attendees must show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Spectators must download the free LumiSight UH health check app, where they will be able to upload their vaccination card (24 hours prior) and complete the daily health screening prior to entering the campus.

LumiSight UH is available for free on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. It is also available on the LumiSight UH website for those without access to a suitable mobile device, or those who prefer not to download the mobile app.

2021 Hawai‘i Bowl Returns This Christmas Eve

HONOLULU – The 19th annual Hawai‘i Bowl returns this Christmas Eve and will be played at the brand-new Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa campus.

This year’s contest will pit the Mountain West versus the American Athletic Conference. Kick-off time is 8 p.m. ET (3 p.m. HT) on ESPN.

“We look forward to the 2021 Hawaiʻi Bowl and the opportunities the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex will provide our fans to continue their holiday tradition of cheering for their favorite teams in person,” executive director Daryl Garvin said.

The Ching Athletics Complex will serve as the temporary home of the Hawai‘i Bowl while the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District is completed. The Hawai‘i Bowl was held at Aloha Stadium every year from 2002-2019. The new stadium is projected to open in 2024.

The University of Hawai‘i won the last Hawai‘i Bowl played in 2019 with a thrilling 38-34 victory that featured a high-scoring first half with 55 combined points.

A Mountain West team has played in the Hawai‘i Bowl every year since 2012. The American will send a representative for the third time in Hawai‘i Bowl history.
